Also known as lyophilisation or cryodesiccation, freeze-drying is a process of extracting the water content of certain foods in order to preserve it. This is done through exposing the food to intense cold and heat in a high pressure vacuum chamber. This method is especially effective at maintaining the nutritional value of the food, thereby making it one of the best long-term food storage options.

At Eterna Treats, we have put our best effort into sourcing high quality fresh produce. Fortunately, in South Africa, and specifically between Eastern and Western Cape, there are a number of farms committed to sustainable and regenerative agriculture. Meaning that the harvest is an outcome of farming systems focused on the long term well-being of our lands. This ethical consciousness rehabilitates our eco-system and encourages healthier practices for generations to come. All foods found in Eterna Treats' pantry are products of farms that adhere to these fundamental agricultural practices.
Items marked 'organic' are sourced from seasonal farms whose lands have been practicing regenerative agriculture for more than 3 years, and are therefore able to use the word 'organic' in their labels. Our organic products are therefore also available occasionally when there is stock available for us to freeze-dry. Sometimes these products are sourced at a higher cost and therefore a price difference may be found. Should you specifically require organic freeze-dried products, please reach out to us and we'll let you know which whole foods are within our reach.
In order to maintain the quality and texture of your freeze-dried foods, store in a dry, air-tight jar or container away from direct light. For long-term storage, add an oxygen absorber to the container or jar. For short to medium-term storage add a silica gel. If the food is exposed to air or high levels of humidity, it is normal for the texture to change, however the nutrients will remain intact, and it will still rehydrate as per normal.

After placing your order via our online form, you will receive an invoice within 24hrs along with a pay link. The link will transfer you to a secure payment page to complete your transaction. Once payment is received, your order will be processed and delivered to the address provided.
Delivery throughout South Africa ranges between R100-R200 depending on the weight of the order. This amount will be found on your personal invoice. Orders over R900 receive free delivery. If there is a failure to receive the order from the courier company (i.e. nobody present at delivery address provided) then a re-delivery charge may be issued. Delivery for international orders and bulk orders are calculated individually.
An order may take between 4-14 days to process excluding courier times. Freeze-drying is a process which requires patience, but is certainly worth the wait.
Unfortunately we do not accept any returns or refunds. However if you have any concerns, please feel free to contact us directly and we’ll do our best to assist you.
The process, equipment, labour and time required to preserve foods through freeze-drying results in a higher cost compared to other methods. Comparatively the outcome is a longer shelf-life free from any preservatives and additives, and most importantly a higher nutritional profile.
Yes. Products are safe from 6 months old in moderation. We have found the tangy flavours like raspberry, strawberry, peach and kiwi to be favourites among teething babies.
Yes. Freeze-dried whole foods are safe for pets, in moderation along with a balanced diet.
